Newest line in operation.

I was wondering what is the newest line in operation, when I say new I mean entirely new not a reopened one, the newest one I could think is the realignment north of Stoke-on-Trent in 1967 but i'm sure there is newer ones than that.

There's also been the realignment near Wallyford on the ECML due to land condition, I forget when but something in me screams 2003.

I think your right, the line through shoreditch is the newest section but the Channel Tunnel Tunnel Rail Link is probably the newest entirely new line.

Then, in no particular order, we have the Bicester chord, the Ordsall chord, the Almond chord, the Ipswich chord, the Nuneaton North chord, the Hitchin flyover, the North Doncaster chord, and Crossrail. (Not sure if the Canal tunnels are actually completely new, as I know there used to be services from the GN line to Moorgate via Farringdon.)

No it won't - The gap with new track between Surrey Quays and Queens Road Peckham is relaying track on old alignment

The Canal tunnels are new as the old connection was on a different alignment.
Those trains used the tunnels at Kings Cross. the up platform at KX York Road station was somewhere where the end of platforms 0/1 in the main station is now.
The down platform was outside the current suburban platform 11, and the tunnel run under the GN Hotel. I think that tunnel now has electric cables in it that were rerouted when the new underground ticket hall was built.
If traveling slowly you can see where they come out into the Thameslink core near the now disused Kings Cross Thameslink platforms

I'd say that's just new trackwork along the same alignment. Otherwise you could say the new platform lines at Stalybridge are the newest, because they opened on Monday.

Not technically a new line but rebuilt.

The Airdrie - Bathgate line that fully opened in December 2010, With Armadale, Caldercruix and Drumgelloch opening at a slightly later date.

Do short re-alignments count? If so, there would be a lot; Canal Tunnels (St. Pancras-Finsbury Park), Hitchin Flyover or one of the many new chords would be in contention, as have been mentioned.

The most recent track on brand new alignment is the Nuneaton North Chord.

The most recent track to be opened is, also, the Nuneaton North Chord.

Next up is Hitchin flyover. Probably.

May well be a new bit on the Robin Hood line between Creswell and Whitwell if Lafarge get the go ahead to excavate the dolomite (not the Triumph type) out of Whitwell tunnel.
