Newcastle to Sunderland (Northern Rail) child fare ?

Living in Tyne & Wear, I have a Nexus Gold card linked to my concessionary bus pass, meaning I can travel for free between Newcastle and Sunderland on the Metro as well as the Northern Rail service on the same route

Travelling with a child (my 9 year old granddaughter) is also free.

Even the signage reads "Kids travel free with a fare-paying adult" (including Gold card) but i am not sure whether or not this also applies to the Northen Rail service

Can anyone help please

Fares between Newcastle and Sunderland are set by Nexus so I would say yes but I've never heard of this discount for the child and it doesn't seem to be list in the Gold Card info on the Nexus site.

The child arrangements are a separate scheme. Details are at https://www.nexus.org.uk/metro/kids-go-free-metro . The terms and conditions make clear the 'fare paying afult' includes ENCTS pass holders. However, there is no mention of Northern participating in the scheme.

They are, but it is noticeable that at https://www.northeast-ca.gov.uk/kidsgofree , when it comes to children travelling free, it states 'Metro and Shields Ferry allow up to three children aged 11 and under to travel for free'. Further down, there is a list of participating bus operator/services, but no mention of Northern or rail anywhere, so it does seem ambiguous at best.
