Hi there I was hoping for some advice on a potential split to get a journey price down - 18th June returning 19th for 2 people. Ideally in London before 4pm and leave London after 10am but flexible as best price I can see is £102 each. Any help much appreciated!

There rarely much to be gained by 'splitting' tickets on that journey, unless you are close to the date of travel and there just happens to still be some 'cheap' tickets for, say, Newcastle to Peterborough and also for Peterborough to Kings Cross, while the corresponding 'cheap' tickets from N'cle to KX have all gone.

But having a quick look at the available fares on that weekend, I can still see availability of £40 'advance' tickets for both parts of the journey.
e.g. Sat 18th June. Dep NCL at 6:30 Arr KGX at 9:42 £40.00
and Sun 19th June. Dep KGX at 10:03 Arr NCL at 13:22 £40.00

I'm assuming that :
1. neither of you have a Railcard, and
2. that by "but flexible" you mean that YOU can be flexible to suit an inflexible ticket, and not that the ticket must be flexible to suit your fixed needs on the day.

There actually can be a lot gained by splitting if you time it right and don't mind changing. Splitting at Peterborough normally gives a saving, and even a bigger saving if you drop back onto the ex Leeds/Skipton/Hulls etc. This applies even well in advance, with a split at York and Peterborough giving a great saving to myself.

Indeed, the following can get you everything for £149.40.

0559 Newcastle-London Kings Cross 0908 (Newcastle-Doncaster advance at £14.20 each and Doncaster-London advance at £20.50 each).

Returning on the 1003 London Kings Cross-Doncaster 1146, changing onto the 1159 Doncaster-Newcastle 1322. (London-Newcastle advance at £40 each)

Don't forget that at those prices and at those times, it will be worth your while getting a 'two together' railcard just for the one journey. It's also valid for a year, so potential further savings should you decide to travel together again.

Thanks for the replies, I went 2 together railcard which I didn't realise was an option as I was under the impression that railcards were only students and oaps!
