My wife and I are travelling to Leeds from Newcastle on Sunday 8th June, so I was looking at fares.

I see the week before our travel date there are direct fares at about £18 for the two of us, with railcards, which is an excellent price.

(Quick question .. if we were travelling on the 1st .. would folk recommend TPE or XC)

However, for our date, there are no direct tickets available .. searching for trains after 10:00 only brings up 4 options, each starting with a XCountry trip first. The prices are much higher too

What's going on please ?

Or am just being a bit too keen .. maybe I should wait a wee while and try again.

Too keen, but also looking at RTT for those dates; it would appear there is engineering work somewhere east of Leeds between Leeds and York, so there are fewer direct services.

On 8th, XC are running via Doncaster and avoiding Leeds; TPE are diverting around Leeds to arrive from the west, so there is still a direct service but fewer of them in total, meaning the cheaper tickets might be in shorter supply.

It’s currently too far ahead to see exactly what the works are on National Rail Enquiries, and of course it could be subject to change this far in advance.
