Newcastle to Hexham

Going racing in a month or so , what type of jalopy can I expect on the Newcastle to Hexham line (Northern Line I assume)

As he said, a 142, or a 156. Pacer, or super sprinter.

If you are lucky, it will be a Scotrail unit!

class 142's look like something from the dark ages, do they have loos ( its a boys racing day so I imagine bladders maybe overflowing)

Yes they do. Although its quite hard to pee on a pacer hock:

If its a terminator (at hexham) it could be a 142, I have found that all SR Stranraer etc services are 156, as are majority of Northern Carlisle services.

I wouldnt want to pee on a pacer after the last time I seen a pacer on the platform :eek:

If your train is the Newcastle - Carlisle service it is normally a 156, if it is a Middlesbrough - Hexham train it is normally a 142. Of course the diagrams do change. Haven't had any more word on escaped 158s up Tyne Valley way so I very much doubt you'll see one.

The 06:42?, 13:12 and 17:12 ex Newcastle are Scotrail 156s. Recently its mostly been northern 156s with only 1 142 a day working to Carlisle (06:56 ex Middlesbrough is a favourite). There have been no 158s on the line for a good few years now

Well I should have specified none as far as Carlisle. Can't be many Newcastle based crews who sign them as they aren't exactly frequent in the north east

The last time i done this line it was 156s on the Hexhams and 142s on the Carlisles . The pacers are more exciting.
