Newcastle north area advice

Looking for a bit of help. I am at Newcastle racecourse next Sunday between 0900 and 1300 with time to kill. I notice the ECML is close by. Any pointers for location would be nice for pictures. Does the line see much freight or is there another line fairly close by that does see freight ? I drive all week so not wanting to do much driving( since its 240 mile roundtrip anyhow)

I have yet to get the detailed map out but Cramlington springs out ?

Hi there.

I am not aware of any outstanding locations around there although there may be some of course. Not sure how photograpable Cramlington is.

I would check the ares out on Google earth if you have not already done so.

IIRC there is much more freight around on the south side.

Cramlington is on a bend, so you don't get much to photograph. Morpeth would be a better choice, but if you're going to do that, might as well go to Newcastle where there will be a lot more to see.

Failing that, get a bus to Regent Centre and have a look around on the Tyne and Wear Metro system. You could go to the market at Tynemouth station, and some decent fish and chips nearby.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I had a look at a couple of places near to Stannington, although the Visability was around 100 foot in the mist/rain. I decided to head West for some non rail photography were the weather was a little kinder. If and when I am up that way again, I now have a starting point.
