Newcastle - Morpeth Ticketing

Just wondering, for travel between Newcastle and Morpeth there used to be a cheaper 'XC ONLY' option which I would buy, however now Avantix Traveller is only showing AP fares and one £9,999 'XC ONLY' fare (for dates after the fares increase).

I presume that this means the end of the cheaper tickets restricted to the few XC trains passing daily (which cost £3.10 for an Anytime Day Return compared to the £5.50 AP option)?

I was surprised that XC were offering a cheaper option compared to their usually overpriced tickets, and can't really say I'd be surprised by the end of it.

I've just checked NCL - DHM and NCL - CLS which also used to have the lower XC fares. These have been removed as well. Also have checked East Coast's site to see if the tickets are on there or not. So yes it does look like they have been removed.

The XC only fares for Edinburgh to Newcastle, York, & Doncaster also seem to have disappeared. I'll have to check if the XC only Fife concession fares have gone as well?

They will have, given that there's no Fife Concessionary fares for any TOC anymore

These fares have now been removed from the system so you cannot purchase them from any ticket outlet e.g. Online/Ticket Office/On Board XC Trains.

But I wouldn't rule out the return of these tickets later on.

given that I live in Fife, I can confirm that they are gone in Fife and that the Edinburgh equivilants are also gone - victims of the SNP councils ridiculous attempts at making cuts

No becuase i bought a £2 pound ticket on the 30th Of December for travel that day. Might have gone since the turn of the year mind!

No. Route XC Only fares Glasgow Central - Edinburgh are:

SDS £4
FDS £6
SDR £5
FDR £7.50

Fife concession cards still offer a discount within Fife only. Flat fare 50p single or £1.00 return. No longer valid to Edinburgh, Perth, or Dundee though.

The City of Edinburgh Council did withdraw its concession scheme for what it was worth.

I suspect they will go come May when they take over from East Coast as the main provider on the route via Motherwell.

When XC services are as crowded as they are I can't see the need for them to offer "half price" fares on their services.
