Hi everyone, been lurking for a couple of weeks, now taking the plunge to post a question: apologies if this has been asked before..
I have recently applied for a signalling position, completed the online test etc; how long should I have to wait before getting an answer? I am really hoping it won't take months...

Depends whether its a position that they need to fill quickly or not, for example to replace somebody who was dismissed would be urgent and require a quick hiring process where as hiring for a planned retirement may take months as they have time to really pick and choose.

Network Rail are normally quite slow, so it could be a matter of weeks and not days.

Hi I had an online video interview with eastcoast but it was over a month ago n not heard anything and when I go on my account it still says pending can anyone help as I really do want this job . Thanks guys

Hi,

I applied for a signalling position with NR back in early February,completed the online tests in late February.
The assessment day followed in mid March,interview mid April,job offer (verbal) at the end of April.
A formal job offer came the end of May and medical last week and a probable start in July.
Best to be patient!

Thanks, an actual timeframe is most useful. I should have specified that what I wanted to know was how long it takes to get an answer back, regarding the actual online assessment, and not the whole process. My bad. It looks like it is still early days, as the deadline, for the position I applied for, was 3 days ago, so I presume they are still in the process of sending out links to testing and checking all the answers to them. As you suggest in your answer, I should expect a few weeks' wait.
Thank you very much for taking the time to provide fresh input here, your experience is much appreciated.

I once passed an exam and sat an interview with Network Rail and they never got back in touch to tell me if I was or wasn't successful!

Guys.........
Nothing moves quickly recruitment wise on the railways. Sit tight, if it's going to happen, it will. I was 5 months from starting the application process to a start date!!

It's also worth perhaps ringing the recruitment people once a month, once every six weeks just to let them know you're still interested.

With network rail what is a formal job offer do they just call and say you have it or do they post email details.
