Newark Northgate car parking.

When I went to Inverness and Aberdeen a few weeks ago, I parked at the LNER station car park and finished up paying £67 for my Monday to Saturday stay, I now know that if I had booked 7 days parking it would have only cost £49.
Just out of interest how much would I have been fined/invoiced if I had just driven out of the car park without paying anything?

I am going to Scotland again next week, Tues-Sat, but thinking of using the NCP car park next door. Does this car park usually have spaces and presumably as I am now registered with NCP I just scan a QR code and the parking cost is taken out of my debit card account?

See my thread on a similar subject! There's definitely something changed in my view that means what was originally expensive is now just plain extortionate.

Byelaw 14 applies which is a criminal offence (though non-recordable) and subject to a fine not exceeding £1,000. I'd be surprised if this all shook out cheaper than just paying their eye-watering charges.

Not an answer to the original question but slightly related to this thread.

Two years ago I travelled up to Inverness but didn’t park my car at Newark Northgate. I was going for 10 days so didn’t want to leave my car in the car park for all that time and the cost would have been astronomical anyway.

I think there is generally a real issue with the high price charged for parking at stations like Newark Northgate and others in market towns that charge these high prices because they are on a main line. City Centre stations are usually easier to reach by public transport because bus services from surrounding towns and villages tend to run into the larger cities. Stations like Newark serve a large rural area but bus services into Newark from these villages are infrequent or even non existent. Newark hardly has any buses after 7pm or on Sundays.

When I travelled up to Inverness I travelled from Nottingham instead of the more convenient journey from Newark Northgate. I can get a bus from my village into Nottingham but not into Newark.
I left my house 6.15am to get the bus into Nottingham. Caught the 7.35am train from Nottingham to Grantham. By the time I had travelled to Grantham and waited for my connection I was eventually passing through Newark Northgate at around 8.45am.
Two and a half hours after leaving my house I was less than 20 miles from home!

I had to use the train for a journey of that distance but if I’m just doing a day trip to somewhere like York it’s often easier to remain in the car, drive up the A1 and use the Park and Ride. Parking at Newark Northgate is £12.50 a day which is quite an amount on top of your train ticket.
