Newark Castle -- Newark North Gate

Hi everyone, just a quick query about a trip to Lincoln that I have to undertake tomorrow.

The nature of this trip means that I won't be leaving Lincoln Central till after 20:00 so I'll be on the 20:42 EMT service to Nottingham with a change at Newark Castle for Newark North Gate.

I've never had to do this before so is the thirty minutes that I've been given enough time to get to North Gate for the 21:51 to Leeds?

You can do it in 15 minutes if you know the way by the riverside and Waitrose car park, 20-25 if you go the slightly less direct (and far prettier) route via the town centre.

Hi mate.

Yes that is plenty of time, i live in Newark and it takes me about 15 Min's to walk from castle to north gate.

Go out of the main station onto the main road and head away from the station, you will go over a river bridge and come to a roundabout, turn left at the roundabout and head straight down that road, passed a set of traffic lights and a bp petrol station, you will then see on your left some shops (eg boots, tk max and carpet right) turn right there (just before the bridge) and head down there and that is Newark north gate.

I normally walk a short cut but i wouldn't advise it to someone who doesn't know the area.

The riverside walk crosses the river at this bridge. I've done it a couple of times, you have enough time providing the first train isn't too late! No idea if the riverside walk will be lit or pleasant at around 9.30pm, I did the walk about 5 years ago in daylight. May be better to stick to the roads.

Or, if you could make the 2027 Northern service to Retford, change there and at Doncaster, you'd be in Leeds 20 minutes earlier at 2233, and avoid the nocturnal tour of Newark!

Cheers for the info mate but I'd already set off when you posted it so I missed it, but I did however get lucky in that the 20:42 arrived into Newark Castle two minutes early and the 21:24 London KX -- Leeds service was running seven minutes late so I managed to catch that out of Newark North Gate.

It's the only time you ever want a service to be late

That's nothing ...I've missed a train out of Man Picc, got the next train to Warrington Central, legged it to Bank Quay (further than the Newark walk I'm sure!) and got to the platform before the train I missed pulled in Anyway glad you made it

I must say that by night Newark looks 100% safer than the streets of Bradford.
Think no beggers who conviently are always 40p short to get the last bus home :-x

Interesting stuff.

While we're on about walking (or in Yorkie's cause running) between two stations in the same city/town.

Is there any official connecting times out there for Bradford Interchange to Bradford Forster Square?

I Would be interested to see what Northern give the connection between the two as I can walk it in around six minutes.
