Hello. :)

I'm thinking to buy a new video card.

Someone know if nVidia GeForce 600/700 series video cards (or a recent nVidia GeForce) work with BVE 2 and BVE 4 on Windows XP SP3?

@Everyone
What was your latest nVidia GeForce video card (and latest driver) that you used with BVE 2/4 on Windows XP SP3?

I tryed BVE 2/4 with GeForce GTX 480 on same PC and same Win XP SP3, testing all drivers available (about 30 versions ), but now this happens (with GeForce 7900 GTX, BVE worked with driver not later than 266.58 version):

BVE 2 (Uchibo Line):

BVE 4: (Uchibo Line):

Seems something about vanishing point of the perspective.

With all other routes is the same.

If I enable or disable anisitropic and/or antialiasing filters there is not changes.

DirectX is updated at latest version available for XP.

If I disable Direct3D Hardware Acceleration BVE 2 works and BVE 4 does not work transparents of the cabin, but I wish that it also works with Direct3D Hardware Acceleration.

How can I solve the trouble?

Switch to OpenBVE? XP support ends in just over 3 months anyway.

Thanks for reply.

I prefer to avoid to switch to OpenBVE.

XP support end is not a problem, because that PC is not connected to Internet.

Yes but if you're after new hardware, it isn't going to be supported.

You'd be better looking at getting a second hand older card.

It is OK to buy an older video card than GeForce GTX 480, but I do not know which is the latest GeForce that works with BVE 2/4.

Was about the 6600 series IIRC, they're way old. Best option is openBVE as has been said.

6600 series is too old, anyway I know that 7900 GTX works with BVE (it is my old video card), so it is OK a GeForce between 8 series and 300 series, but which is the latest GeForce that works with BVE 2/4?

As much as anything, it's down to the drivers. But as has been said, BVE2/4 are old software amd will work best on older OSs. OpenBVE is the best solution, even if you don't use all the external views etc. I can't see why you're so unwilling to try.

I already use OpenBVE, but it does not work well with some routes for BVE 2/4, instead they evidently work with BVE 2/4 (with GeForce 7900 GTX), and for others reasons...

Anyway I think that XP is old enough to allow to BVE 2/4 to work ;) and I think that the issue is of video card's driver.

According to that write here (http://2chland.net/train/1304866442-200.html, English translation http://translate.google.it/translate?sl=ja&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=it&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2F2chland.net%2Ftrain%2F1304866442-200.html, particularly messages 231, 239, 241 and 244), seems that BVE 2/4 is compatible until GeForce 400 series with driver 260.XX, but with my PC with GeForce GTX 480, BVE does not work, as shown in the images of an my previous message.

Does anyone use nVidia GeForce 200 series or newer to run BVE 2/4 under Windows XP?

I have solved the trouble.

  • GeForce GTX 280: it works until 266.58 driver (perhaps also GeForce GTX 285, but I have not tested it)

  • GeForce GTX 480: it does not work with any drivers
