New Tube for Shanklin?

I was considering the Island Line's decrepit tube trains, and I started to wonder if an order for new trains could be tacked onto TfL's forthcoming "New Tube for London" order. Obviously the trains wouldn't be six car, and may need some changes to operate with third rail rather than fourth, but I'm not a rolling stock engineer, so I was wondering what any other drawbacks might be.

The cost would certainly be higher, but the only other option for new(er) trains would be cast-offs from other tube lines, and unfortunately all the 83 and 67 stocks have been cut up.

Well the NTfL is designed for mainly ATO operation rather than manual, and with the difference in amount of passenger, it probably won't worth the money to do so.

SWT have said time and again that the next trains will be secondhand '73 stock when it becomes available from TfL

As DfT have announced today the present line costs £4M to run with an income of £1M.

IMHO that's a strong signal that it will never ever see brand new stock.

The only way that line will see brand new stock will be tram trains.

There are definitely guards; it's been talked about a lot seeing as the units have no gangways whatsoever.
