:o O.M.G Thats like Macclesfield-Oxford with XC! I don't get why they would run such a train on a service that long!

Well, the difference between that and say an XC service of simalar length, is that, people will use the Chester - Manchester - Southport for shorter journeys, so if it was split and only advertised to go to manchester, even though it formed the Southport train, it wouldn't make much difference, whereas with XC, people are more likely to use it all the way through

Not quite - a 142 would take about 1 hour longer to reach Oxford over a Voyager.

I think he was comparing the fact that the journey time is similar to how long it takes a voyager to Oxford

I don't know how accurate that comment is as a lot of people board or alight XC services at Birmingham. There are certainly people from Northwich, Knutsford and Altrincham who use the service through to Salford, Bolton or Wigan. I'm not sure how many people use the service through to Southport from those places but I wouldn't be surprised if there were quite a few from Northwich, Knutsford and Altrincham as there were some that went through to Blackpool when there was a Northwich to Blackpool service.

Ok, the last bit was probably wrong, but I don't think many will use it from end to end when its quicker by merseyrail
