New trainee Conductor

Hey there. I'm a new member, this is my first post and I have just been accepted as a trainee conductor with TPE, subject to passing my medical etc. I'm really looking forward to starting though I'm ready for it to be tough going!

Has anyone else completed the training on TPE and can offer any advice at all?

Well done on getting the job, I think there is a tpe conductor on here, if you know what depot your at it might help people tell you what to expect.

No probe I think being based at hull you will work on class 170's and 185's, not sure about routes, I'm sure someone will tell you.

I think it's mainly hull - Manchester and Hull Liverpool but I'd be interested to know how long the training is likely to take if anyone knows

12-16 weeks I think, mine was 14 weeks, but that was a few years ago.

Same here, I have spoken to HR and evidently they are just waiting for the contract to be sorted before sending it out to me.

ooh that's good to know. I've got so much going round my head with what to expect and where the training may be based....plus when I finish training it's a huge move across the country as well so I'm trying to stay as organised as I can! Where will you be based?

helloo there.. i have recently just joined TPE as a conductor at cleethorpes.. i started in october and now out on my own..
if you want any advice etc... i will try and help if i can?

Hi guys.

I've also just joined TPE as a Trainee Conductor, based at York!

I start on the 14th February, but I have to report to Manchester, presumably for and induction course etc. I'm told it may be around 4 weeks...

Good luck and just rememeber safety 1st always doors, signals , ground frames ,shunts all r more important than revenue.

As a guard/conductor/trainmanager/sncndr some people get led into the yr only there for revenue attitude but this is the wrong way to think about things.

All the best with it, I started with Northern in August 2009 as a Guard, and it only feels like yesterday I finished training! You'll love it, and just like "reapz" said, safety is the main priority!

I have a bit of a soft spot for the TPE since it passes through Mossley where my mum lived during the early part of the last century. She "commuted" into Manchester during WWII to work at the Gas Board.

I like the way the rail line passes right under the back porches of some houses outside the station there.

I've still not got a start date, nothing other than the email through yet. I'm wondering whether to give HR a call as I need to give 4 weeks notice with my current employer.

Can't wait to get started!!!

i live just outside hull you will find things different.
At least it shows they will give jobs to people who live more than 1 hour away

Indeed. They did cover it in my first interview so knew I was serious about the move over there. I have a lot of friends in the area already.

Seriously considering contacting HR today as work keeping asking me about a leaving date.

Also, are there any other parents on here? I'm aware it will be a tough call balancing childcare, shifts etc etc but it would be interesting to know how other people manage it

Advice about training? I imagine it will be the same for every company's frontline staff, so I'll just say, keep at it and don't get too worked up over the amount of time it seems to take. Especially if you're like me who just wants to get out there and do it; make sure you understand everything fully and understand the importance (even if it is the boring stuff like safety, company induction, drugs/alcohol, etc.)

I'm currently working on a project which won't be completed for 10 years and every morning I start work and have to resist the urge to shout "can't we just hurry up and get on with it?"
