The E259 series is a DC electric multiple unit on order by East Japan Railway Company (JR East). A total of 132 vehicles formed as 22 6-car sets are due to be introduced over a period of two years from October 2009 on the Narita Express limited express services to and from Narita International Airport. They will replace the 253 series EMUs currently used on these services by June 2010.

Very striking design and paintjob. I think I like- though it is quite a retro configuration, similar to the Dutch ICM- which I think are run in Japan too.

Will the Series 253 trains be cascaded elsewhere or retired?

It's a pity as some of the Green Class cars have the very nice 2-1 seating configuration. Of course it has not been the same since they removed the refrigerators with the free beer on board in Green Class.
