So, for future readers I will share my experience with TPE so far. I applied for a Trainee Conductor role, you do a basic application and a psychometric test. The psychometric test is wholly customer service interactions, with you choosing the most appropriate option. After completing it, I had an email that I had passed the test but that the process may end for me if there were lots of applicants who passed and I was one of the lower scorers. I waited about 2 weeks to get a reply that I have been succesful and will undertake some more thorough psychometric tests by OPC. I have not completed those tests yet, but I will post an update when I have done them. I can however divulge what the practice samples I was given by OPC contain.
1. Ticket Checking - It's basically like a less intense version of Papers Please. You have to match variables such as Date, Off-Peak On-Peak type tickets, Location.
2. Numerical Practice - These range from "select the highest number" (with more complicated wording) to calculating averages. In the practice it says you are allowed to use a calculator.
3. SCAAT (Safe Concentration And Attention Test) Quality over quantity, tests how long you can concentrate on mundane tasks. You get 5 rows of random letters, about 15 letters long. You are instructed to cross out a specifc letter in a specific case (capitalized or non-capitalized), such as the letter B. In the 2nd question it is 2 letters, such as G and p. Negative points if you cross out the different-case version of the letter you are instructed to cross. I may be mistaken, but I believe that these have replaced the "dot-test".
4. RAAT (Rules Acquisition And Aptitude Test) The paper simulates a rulebook and gives you various rules to abide by. It will then ask you about those rules (such as who should faulty equipment be reported to, what's the difference between a red and yellow Out of Order sign, etc)
5. CSS (Customer Service Situations) This is very similar to the initial psychometric test you are given, where you are given customer service related scenarios and
none of the ****ing available answers are actions took by anybody reasonable you have to rank them to most and least appropriate.
So, that's my experience with the "New" TPE conductor test process. I assume that I will have to sit all 5 psychometric tests, and I'll make sure to update you all on if I do or don't. Wish me luck
