New tours from Spitfire

Just checked with the Network Rail baseline capability (basically a sectional appendix) here: http://www.networkrail.co.uk/browse...ute availability\Western Route&pageid=0&root=
37's are cleared Maidenhead-Bourne End with the exception of 37/7s and 37/9s. MK1s and MK2s are also allowed but not MK3s. They are subject to a speed limit somewhere but that information is missing.
37s are banned from Twyford-Henley unless assisting a failed train in an emergency though. In fact the only locomotives allowed are Class 08s.
I presume Spitfire would have been in contact with Network Rail about this and may perhaps have special authority to run their train to Henley.

All the relevant checks have been done our end, the full spec is with Network Rail, there has been notification of reciept and acceptance.
(Famous last words really on a complex charter like this!).

4SRKT, we'll be in Holyhead the same time as the 57 drag, if it leaves before the 37s do I may do the drag to Chester on the way back, and jump on the 37s there if you fancy getting a third loco on your day out.

The first Peak Army phot in Wolmar's rant was taken at a mileage day for a Peak fan with terminal cancer. Upset? Most Peak enthusiasts were. Just to clarify, Wolmar was bombarded with letters from some of the leading people in Peak preservation and had to apologise for his insensitivity.

Thats who Wolmar is taking a swipe at, and I 100% agree with him.

His article takes a few swipes at the Peak Army though, doesn't it? It doesn't mention many other specific groups, does it? Therefore he was unfairly targetting them.
Most of us in our forties (and beyond) who did diesels in the 70s and 80s are aware of some 'lively' behaviour, whether it was behind Type 4s, Type 3s, or anything else. Acts of lunacy and criminal damage aside, most of the time there was no harm and no police involvement.
The front cover of Neds News, er, Rail Enthusiast, immediately following the last Deltic tour, clearly showed many people armwaving. Are all DPS members Nazis? No, they are not.

It is therefore not 'helpful' to say that flailing is nazi-saluting, but highly misleading and offensive on a number of levels.

God knows I'm no fan of the Peak Army, but that's not the point.

My comment about whom Wolmar was taking a swipe at wasnt aimed at any particular group or article. That part was on about the fact he sometimes takes a swipe at enthusiasts overall. May sound harsh, but as i said, as long as you know who he is aiming it at (the trouble makers/ idiots), then there is no problem.

It's insinuation enough - and that's abhorrent to me.

Not here to row on a personal level though.

So why ask if this makes DPS members nazis? This was never the argument.

It was merely used to show how tarring people with a particular brush is a dangerous thing to do.
