Hello everyone, I've been a bit quiet on here with being so busy at work etc.

Anyway, I'm going to remain pretty quiet as yesterday at 11:13 my wife gave birth to our second child, a son. He weighed a respectfully painful 9lbs 15oz, having to be c-section delivery due to complications. Everybody is fine and healthy, when I finally make the hospital, today's job is to name him (we only found out the gender upon birth).

Congratulations. As a recent father of a second child I know that life will be 'interesting'' for a while, especially after a C section. Good luck to you all and have a good Christmas with new larger family

Just an update to let everyone know what name we've chosen for our son. Tobias Paul John Wilson. Paul is the name of Gemma's Dad, John is the name of my Grandad, who is extremely poorly with terminal prostate cancer :(

Hi all, just an update to the thread to add pictures in, and a bit of news as well. We'll end on a high note, so the news first.

Last night at 23:55 my Grandad passed away. He'd been in an almost permanent sleep due to the medication he was given for the pain of his cancer. When Gemma and I decided on the name, everbody was sent a text to inform them (you wouldn't believe the pestering a nameless baby gets you!). When my Mom got hers, she told the family there, and they managed to rouse my Grandad to a sufficient level to hear his name given to our son. After the briefest of smiles he then fell into the coma that ultimately claimed his life. I'm glad his pain is over, and glad that he got to know we named our son after him.

There are many moments, usually blamed on wind, that result in false 'first smiles'. Apparently genuine ones come at around 4-6 weeks, this was a very early false one captured at just a day old.

I am very sorry to hear about your Grandad, but at the same time pleased that he was able to hear his new great-grandson's name.

Most definately, our first son has been. After my initial inputs, his own demand for knowledge are what's carried him through. He can spot the differnces between all 57s, not just Dellner, and 47s. He can tell most modern units to be found around the Midlands by sound alone. He also does some livery spotting, including the Shanks Freightliner shed, and all major operators around the Midlands too. A lot of the locos he knows class number and nicknames i.e. Whistler, Tractor, Hoover etc. The other day we were watching a Class 37 DVD and he came out with this quote - 'look at the clag, can you hear him thrashing? My Lords' whilst flailing his right arm at the telly! And still only 4 come March next year.

He knows more than me then! I've never been able to work out the class of unit by sound!

Congratulations mate :)

Having a wife whose birthday is 22nd December, I "love" her parents for concieving her in March especially since I get told off for trying to duplicate Christmas and Birthday presents.

Sorry to hear about your Grandad, I went through something very similar with my Nan last month, wasn't the best way to go but she is at peace now and although I'm not religious or owt, I hope she is somewhere nice and peaceful :)
