I don't see the point really. It's only five hours to London Kings Cross from Glasgow QS (if you go to Glasgow Central and then to Kings Cross via Euston) which isn't really that long. It's about five hours in the car to Newcastle!

"InterCity 325" or whatever running from Euston to Glasgow via HS2 (probably HS2c, the Manchester-Carlisle-Glasgow extension) to start operations in 2030 or so. For the through services to Germany, ICE-GB or whatever, a development of the current stock, possibly to C3 loading gauge.

Hmmm... Bellgrove is hardly the nicest part of Glasgow. In fact, I think you'll struggle to find a more deprived area in the UK! Is this really what we want people to see when they step off the train in Scotland's biggest city?

You'd be better off in the city centre somewhere.

However, a big positive is that this looks like it would potentially encompass Glasgow Crossrail should that ever get built. Although I'm still sceptical as to the demand for services bypassing the heart of the city.

In the paper itself, it says this is part of a regeneration thing for that area. Is that not in the same area as Dalmarnock which is getting a Partick-style makeover?

Anyway, i guess as far as the area of Glasgow goes, if it's going to encompass High Street as well that's just about the Merchant City, which isn't so bad- and as for the rest, the words "slum clearence" come to mind. Been done plenty before in glasgow...

Even by central London standards, the area around KX has been pretty shabby for a long time. If the station entrance/exit in Glasgow is to be around Merchant City then passengers will have a lovely welcome

Kings Cross really can be a nightmare. To big, to overcrowded, to dirty, to complicated, too many signs, to many exits and to many platforms!

Not sure if that is the best location.

Probably far, far too expensive - but a large underground station running beneath Buchanan Street would be far better.

Potentially direct access to both Glasgow Central & Glasgow Queen Street Stations would create a real transport hub - and mitigate the usual wet-dash from one to the other for it takes so long in the bus.

How long have we been hearing this story which is a rehash of the old Crossrail tale.
Now with a London train thrown in.
Having known the local councillor for years, he'll be doing well holding on to seat never mind waiting for a London train to turn up in Bellgrove St.

People seemed to think it was a dump in the 1850s as well, but the Great Northern could not go further, so there they stayed. It gets done up every now and then, so I expect that they will start working southwards once they have done the northern parts.
