If they could just change the seating to somthing like the 455 interior on the HC ones and like the 350/1's on the ones that go to Portsmouth/Alton etc they'd be alright.

Personally, I would say that the seating in a class 450 HC, is better than is in a class 458. However, I agree that the seating in a class 455 is a lot better.

We will have to wait and see what the 458/5's give us in terms of seating, but hopefully they will be an improvement on the current 458 fleet.

I appear to be the only person not looking forward to losing the 458s from the Reading line.

The seats are more comfortable on the 458 than the 450 as there appears to be more cushioning. I find the seats on the 450 to be somewhat on the hard side.

On the SE lines, people do use all the 3+2 seating on Networkers, even the squashed middle seat, are the Waterloo commuters pickier or fatter

My proposal is not complete, I'll admit but it goes something along the idea that 3-4 people can stand in the space that would be given by only having 2 + 2 seating & that for most of the day, for the greatest number of passengers the 444's are an awkward, less than desirable way to travel for up to 2 hours making that special trip to London, etc, etc
The Management / Regulators / Government applied themselves to the promise that people wouldn't have to stand like cattle for their commute - but lost the ability of knowing what makes a desirable railway for most of the people who need it.
Yes, I'm suggesting the trains should be more like cattle trucks so that they're more pleasant to travel in.

I like the 458s, indeed I look forward to using them when I do use the Reading SWT line

458/5s will have the current 458 seating which IMO is much more comfortable than 450 or 455 seating as it has some padding but it will be in a 2+2 configuration, reduced to more like 1+1 near the doors.

Well, I am 5 foot 9.5 in height and find the padding in the seats for the 458's to be harsh. I find the 2+2 seats in the 455's to be the best out of the 458's, 450's and 455's.
