New Super Voyager number position

Have just noticed that 221102 has its TOPS number at one end just below and left of the drivers door on the red panel, rather than the lower down black panel, is this going to be fleet wide or has someone just put it in the wrong place ?

Incidentally it has the number in the normal place at the other end.

That's a point I'd never thought of. I think the only other class with numbers on the side is the Pendolino? Oh and the 43 and 91's. that said I'm not familiar with all the livery variants on operators

It does stand to reason. Doesn't overly bother me though, as I can usually work out the number from everything but the numbers on the front skirt anyway :P

and it annoys the spotters ;)

I have seen it mentioned that it is easier to see the number when it is on the lower fairing when working in the depot at ground level.

the numbers are however purely there for maintenance purposes. The day they figure out how to go about depot operations reliably without external numbers is the day they stop bothering to apply them

I doubt it, what if a driver or guard finds a defect to write in the report book? There must be a whole load of other uses for the number out of the depot.

If you're struggling to identify a CrossCountry Voyager you're travelling on, a useful piece of knowledge is that the landing page for the Wifi service includes the unit number. I've been monitoring them for some time and have found them to be 100% accurate.

442s display their numbers on the side, just below the cab window. I believe in NSE days, the number was painted below the first passenger window from the driving end; on the white stripe between the red and blue. Somewhat of a uniqueness among Southern multiple units (395s aside)?
