New Street station power failure

To be fair, New Street usually looks like it is in the dark whatever time of day

It really is quite noticeably darker in places though. I was down in New Street this morning (around 10:30 & 11am), when I came in on (I think) platform 11 it wasn't that bad, but leaving on platform 8 I really noticed the darkness, the lights on the incoming 323 really seemed bright by comparison, they lit up the platform!

Most CIS seemed to be working, the ones on the bridge for platforms 8a to 11a weren't working though. The only shop open was WH Smith, all the food outlets were closed. I didn't get a look at the ticket office.

And rather randomly, even though it was dark, I couldn't help but notice that one of the female NR dispatcher's/CSA's was wearing some shoes with massive heels! If it hadn't of been for her wearing an NR bib, I'd have thought she was heading for a night out as what she was wearing certainly didn't conform to NR uniform!

Three large generators have been installed to power information boards and machines after Friday evening's incident left the station without power.

Lifts are working once more although escalators are not, to conserve power, the spokesman said.

He added that the power shortage was not caused by the redevelopment but by contractors working in a toilet block.

I thought platform 1 was missing a few things (eg. Advertising boards) when I was there

I was at new street today. Apart from the closure of the retail outlets. The station was working as expected. Defective escalators, poor lighting are what we expect at new street
