Rather ironic/par for the HS2 course that the only location in the UK likely to see 400m trains to London currently has a thread on this forum bemoaning the current irregularity of services, such is the downturn in demand.

The reason for Avanti's not running the full 2tph fast Brum-Euston service isn't lack of demand, it's lack of staff and units.

Anyway, back OT, will be interesting to see if there is any visible difference once P5&6 reopen. Not really sure what they are doing, we were just told 'works on the concrete above the tracks'.
I suspect most of the work will be in that dark area above the tracks, the lighting is designed so it’s not really visible.

I wonder what the long term life span is of the building underneath the redevelopment.
There is no station building under the redevelopment it is all one building. The floor you walk about on in the concourse forms the ceiling above the platforms.

Is there any visual difference to the areas where work has been complete?

You can't see anything above the platform ceiling level, & everything below is behind cladding.

I don't know why people think the shops on top are a new build.
The original Pallasades centre had big holes cut in it & the cladding is attached to the original structural elements.

Judging by the signal diagram (linked previously), all platforms are now open. So why do those of us who use the Nottingham XC services have to wait until December to get out normal 2tph to Birmingham restored? Is there something I'm missing? I thought the platform closures were the reason for our reduced service.

The works go on until November. They're taking pairs of platforms in 6 week blocks but are generally finishing early making all platforms available for a period of time before they take the next pair.

Week 34 is meant to be the final week, so weekend of 11th November.

Right, thanks for that. I'd assumed that the next pair would close immediately after the previous pair re-opened, but - as you say - that's not how it's being done. I expect there are good reasons for doing it this way.

I'm still a bit peeved that Nottingham lost half its Birmingham services for such a long time, I get the impression that this particular route suffered more than others; I know the remaining Nottingham services are often lengthened to compensate but it makes some previously good connections very poor.

If the final platform closures are completed in early November I hope they'll reinstate the extra services as STP sooner than the scheduled date which currently seems to be at the timetable change (10th December).
