Within the overall announcement about the Southwestern franchise, First Group mention working with stakeholders to introduce new stations at Wilton, Merrow and Park Barn.

Wilton (Parkway) I was already aware of - although it is on the Westbury line rather than the West of England line - but I'd not heard of Merrow (which would presumably be on the "New Line" somewhere) or Park Barn before?

Was anyone else aware of either of these two proposed locations, and can the additional calls be easily squeezed in?

This was discussed on a new stations thread recently...

They've been talked about locally before. I have often thought that Guildford has scope for more stations than it does a present. It's well known for having awful traffic, and the current two stations are fairly close together.

I would fully support more stations being built in Guildford. I could definitely see them being very useful and well used. Seeing how large Guildford is and the amount of railway lines that go through it i have always been surprised that Guildford has so few stations.

The site for the one at Merrow/Burpham is where the council depot is, if you follow the newline out from London Road, you go over a bridge where Merrow Lane & New Inn Rd meet, if you're looking at Google Maps on aerial view you'll see that there's a small industrial estate and council depot there.

That's the proposed location, which will be near a proposed 3000 home development at Gosden Hill farm, next to the A3.

The other is Park Barn/Hospital, which is found near the A3 and Guildford Cathedral. It would serve Park Barn, Tesco's Superstore, Royal Surrey County Hospital & Research Park, the problem with it is that it's on a fairly steep gradient and there's nowhere to park.

They could do with one out on Salt Box Road, which would serve Bellfields, Slyfield Ind Estate & Jacobs Well, the downside of that is that it's about a mile from Worplesdon.

Another site would be Artington P&R site, located between the V of North Downs line and Portsmouth Direct.
