Hi folks, traveling back on the Atherton line this evening and noticed several new station name signs, these seemingly have been designed by someone with no imagination as they are a plain white sign with miniscule text,.anyone know why such a bland design was chosen ?

Sounds like the new 'GBR' format. Lots of Northern stations have them. I agree with your view that they are boring. In my opinion they look unloved and inviting of vandalism.
