New station needed in mid cheshire

I think this new station is required just north or Hartford where the mid cheshire line crosses over the west coast mainline.

It would cut train journeys, from Northwch or Knutsford especially to the north and south.

Also if Middlewich station was re opened that would be a real boost for the county.

A new interchange station there would be useful, I agree.

But I can't see it happening. The costs would be high and Virgin would go ballistic at the idea of another local station on the WCML!

There are many other places where stations are more needed, but it is costly to build them and realistically only a small percentage of proposed stations will actually be built.

Harford station would close, and also the never used acton bridge will close.

they could call the new station something like Hartford junction or something like that.

Is it true that when liverpool south parkway was built, 2 stations closed.

As I've said in a previous topic. The line speed on the Sandbach-Northwich branch is 20mph - it's quicker going by bus than that service if it existed. Not only that, but how exactly would opening Middlewich station do any good? Northern are already at full stretch in terms of units used already, they can't afford allocating a regular service for Middlewich...perhaps a parliamentary train but it would have to be a proper one like Reddish South gets.

Not only that, but surely it would be too expensive getting the track and it's equipment up to scratch for regular use, wouldn't it? The fact that Class 221s and freight trains use it like once/twice every year doesn't quite mean the line is fit for use.

Besides, Sandbach railway station is within 15 minutes drive from Middlewich and that gets a regular service to both Crewe and Manchester... :roll:

If memory serves me correctly, Cheshire County Council once had outline plans for a "Mid Cheshire Parkway" station at this location.

Not that they would build it of course, just an aspiration in one of their transport plans from some while back.

Whilst it would have distinct advantages, (plugging Northwich into the main line network a lot more conveniently than the walk between Greenbank & Hartford), I can't see it happening any time soon - if ever.

There would also be the possiblity of a station opening at Rudheath as the line is right next to Gadbrook Industrial Estate and a station at Middlewich would allow people to commute from Middlewich to the new Lostock Industrial Estate. Yes, obviously there are people who disagree with me but I've come across a number of these people and, discounting yourself jcollins , they are: selfish, obnoxious, don't listen to reason and are complaining about an industry in which they don't fully understand the mechanics of.

I wish you luck on your petition, but I can't see the rebuilding of Middlewich station when there is a station with perfectly suitable and regular service in the form of Sandbach just up the road; Northern getting their evenly spaced services back when they are "bottom of the food chain", so to speak, along the Crewe-Manchester line.

I'm not saying Northern's services are acceptable, far from it. But when you consider there is f**k all Northern can do about it then you'll see why I won't sign your petition.

My solution would be to extend the hourly Liverpool Lime St to Warrington Bank Quay to call at Greenbank, Northwich, Knutsford, Hale and terminate at Altrincham. This would provide links for all these places to Liverpool and the WCML, and provide 2 trains an hour on the busiest part of the Mid Cheshire Line.

First time I've heard that exact idea, but not a bad one. I've heard if a Manchester Airport to Hale link was built, a proposal for a Man Airport-Knutsford-Northwich-Runcorn-Liverpool service (along with a Man Airport-Knutsford-Chester-Holyhead service) As well as a regular Birmingham-Preston service calling at Hartford and Warrington, but Central Trains couldn't accommodate it.
