New Station for Okehampton

It was the same last Monday when I visited the station, the PIS screen was still showing the Okehampton service after I alighted from the Exeter service that was on time and formed on the unit of that Okehampton service.
The required box can be ticked because real-time information is provided. Its accuracy is neither here nor there- it’s only for passengers and who cares about then,

I caught the 10.28 from Okehampton Interchange to Exeter today, 22 passengers boarded which seemed quite respectable for a brand new station. The train was already half full with people from the old town station.

Within just two weeks from opening ( on 1/8/26) the brand new lift at Okehampton Int. failed and was on 15/8/26 found to be out of order at this new and unstaffed station.
Very unhelpfully for people needing to use this lift, no mention was made on the GWR website that this lift was out of order.

Oh dear that is a shame that means they have to take the long way round to get to the car park and buses in which case could likely miss their connection.

I looked at the site yesterday at just after 6pm. Quiet car park but, some would have gone home by that time.
Signs like this don't really help though.
They must have been told to put the sign where the older one is, so they did.......

Devon Council have been informed, with the same photos

I passed that signage on a bus yesterday and I am pleased to say that it has been sorted out.

Good news. I did get a reply saying that it was being investigated. Result.
Now, a quick email about reopening Bere Alston to Tavistock......

I’ve visited this station around midday about 5 times since it opened, there are usually only between 20 and 25 cars parked there ( 200 spaces), and not once have I seen a car parked in the several disabled spaces.

The brand new lift was out of order for several days and the ticket machine has also broken down.

The ticket machine has no roof - or even a basic shelter - to protect people when it rains.

There was a network issue with the Ticket Vending Machine which also affected Okehampton itself, sorted now (that issue at least)

Hopefully as more people become aware of it's existence throughout the area it will become more used. I think it's sensible to have a large car park given lots of people will use it effectively as a park and ride to Exeter and beyond.

I also know people who use it regularly but are dropped off by a family member or friend rather than driving themselves.

It's down to GWR to publicise the station beyond Okehampton. Places like Bude, Launceston, Holsworthy, Lifton, Tavistock need to be targeted.
