Hi. Just wondering what people's thoughts are on the new Stagecoach Enviro 400s?

I live in Preston and on my local 125 route we had Scania Enviros with the Gold seating and livery. Those buses were far from perfect. They are very crashy on bad roads. On a nice road though, they are lovely vehicles with very comfortable seats and great heaters in the Winter! I have lots of good memories of them will be very sad to see them go.

I have had my first couple of rides on the brand new all Dennis buses that are the replacements. I think they are very poor in my opinion. They look smart from the outside but the interior and seats feel like they're made out of plastic. Engine feels gutless, the Stop / Start system is poor and very basic. I don't see how constantly cutting the engine and restarting it with the starter motor can be thar good for fuel and engine longevity? I could forgive all that but I cannot forgive the shocking ride quality and the constant banging and rattling of the interior. I can't believe on the first days of service they can ride so badly and the windows can be rattling like they are going to fall out.

Who chooses and buys these vehicles and thinks they are good? What are your thoughts? I am being too harsh maybe.

Do Stagecoach still do that thing where they buy Enviro 400s on different chassis types depending on they type of route they are going to operate?

Is the original poster describing a change where a route has switched chassis type?

Not anymore. Stagecoach used to split orders between Scania and ADL chassis with generally Scania for the longer distance rural and inter urban routes and ADL for inner city routes. There was a period where Stagecoach fell out with Scania over engine fan modifications but that was later resolved. More recently Scania have ceased to produce the double deck chassis so the recent chassis have all being ADL. That means the ADL chassis are being used on the longer routes as well.
