Cognisco, it is a terrible set up, in fact, unless guided by the briefer, you are set up to fail ! last time I did it, was back to no rule books allowed, which in my view is 100% wrong and dangerous
Yes the whole "no books" allowed policy has always struck me as odd. The last brief I took (Back in August) allowed us to use our books as the tests were all related to non-emergency situations; situations which, had they occurred in real life, the signaller would have had time to check their books if they were unsure of the correct response.
Obviously in the case of an emergency situation which requires immediate action, then the signaller should know how to respond without consulting their books (Although the unwritten rule of "if in doubt, put back" still applies.)
