New Signaling At Banbury

I notice two new semaphore signals (BS27 &BS35) have been installed at the souuthern ends of platforms 1/2 at Banbury. Also indicators have been installed on platforms 1 & 2.

I assume this is in connection with the Reading closure over Christmas when certain FGW trains are using the New Line via High Wycombe to reverse at Banbury.

Yes it is, but they've just replaced existing ground disc signals 'one for one'.

The shunt moves necessary were already available, so there were only fairly minimal changes needed to improve the signals to passenger standard, as you rightly suggest for the FGW diversions.

There has also appeared a new walking route path on the down line Banbury side of Aynho Junction specially put in the for FGW HST'swhen the drivers need to change ends when turning at Aynho.

It's generally for the benefit of anything turning back at Aynho, but is a direct result of the forthcoming Reading diversions.

TDK is right too, it is also to enable drivers of HST's to turn around at Aynho. A '10 car stop board' is also to be provided, if it hasn't been erected already.

Whether the schedules show HST's to turn back at Aynho is a different matter ;o)

The stop sign trackside says HST on it, obviously anything can turn there but this new walking route has been put in for HST's or what ever stock FGW are going to use, it was not there before and only appeared over the last 3 weeks or so.
