The Scottish government’s new coronavirus advert has be viewed as scaremongering by many especially those concerned about the effects it may have on young children

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...s-kitchen-hard-hitting-anti-Covid-advert.html

Frustrated viewers have slammed the Scottish government's anti-Covid advert and accused it of 'scaremongering' after it showed a woman passing coronavirus onto her grandfather.

The hard-hitting advert, complete with a horror movie soundtrack, shows the young woman contaminating her grandfather's kitchen in green slime as she moves around to make him a cup of tea.

The chilling video aims to warn viewers just how easily the virus can be spread by using filthy green slime as a graphic visual aid and has been released by the Scottish government to encourage the public to adhere to the restrictions.

How disgusting and distasteful of them. Whoever did this should fully be held accountable, it perfectly sums up the Scottish government approach though. It could cause psychological damage to young children and potentially put them off physical contact for all the wrong reasons.

I'd have done it without the "horror movie" soundtrack, but it does make a good point about handwashing/sanitising, which surely nobody can object to? And yes, kissing your grandfather is probably a really stupid idea at the moment.

That seems a very appropriate way of getting the message across

It really isn't. Instead of the over-stated dramatics, they could just have a sensible conversation with the public. But the politicians these days aren't good enough to do this, so this crap is the result.

Wasn’t it Nicola Sturgeon that was always going on about having an “adult, grown-up conversation” with the public about this? This negates that completely.

I can't see a problem with it other than the "horror movie" music, which it would have been better without. I get objection to masks, I get objections to closing businesses, but if you can't get why going round your Grandfather's house, kissing him and making a cup of tea without washing your hands first isn't a stupid idea as things stand, given the high risk to him compared with you, I really can't get what you're thinking. You wouldn't go round if you thought you might have flu - I've certainly not visited my parents before just because I had a viral something-or-other because it could be much worse for them than me.

Even if we decided to let it circulate unimpeded, it would be a really, really stupid idea to do what is pictured. In fact, if we do move that way it will have to be with shielding, and so you shouldn't visit him at all in that case.

All in all a sensible advert, minus the silly music.

On a side note aren’t most viruses killed at temperatures of 140F+ given the boiling temperature of water is well above that I’m not sure a cup of tea could spread the virus in the method that advert suggests

Has this been shown on TV or via social media?
I expect a backlash and complaints.
Why don't these people think things through?

The outside of the cup, and in particular the handle, wouldn't get hot enough.
