Am I right to suggest that there is talks with the union to put Scotrail drivers on a new shift patteren by April 2017 (was this part of the last pay deal)?

Currently drivers work a seven day week to cover the Sunday's as overtime

17 Sunday's enforced overtime shifts per year !!

17 seven day working weeks per year !!

(My working week starts on my first day back at work regaurding which day of the week it is )..

So please we only work a 4 day working week brigade don't get on your high horse please ..

I know there is/was talks to include the Sunday's as part of the working week for Scotrail drivers can anybody enlighten me with any information regaurding this I would very much appreciate any information

Thanks in advance .

You are asking the same question over and over again expecting a different result! Oh we work 4 day week by the way!
The question has been answered and Scotrail driver has just answered it again for you.
Do you have a job offer with Scotrail yet or are you in a holidng pool for a specific depot? If it is latter why do you not try and get a copy of your chosen depots roster which will give you an idea of their shif pattern..

The working week in ScotRail is Sunday to Saturday not the day you start back. So if you do 7 in a row that's a 4 day week the first week and a 5 day week the second. You then have 5 days off. If you go unavailable for your booked Sunday it is 2 4 day weeks. 8 days out of 14. That's the way it works. I'm not sure why you seem so concerned by this. It's great time off but if it doesn't suit you then it's not the job for you. It may change in the future but it's working well as it is just now so I wouldn't bet on it.

The shift patteren looks mince when the forced Sunday is put on you especially when it's a early am finish on a sat and late on the Monday ..what's that all about..
Apart from a wed thurs off one week you must be chasing your 5 days off all the time
Suppose it's better than Monday to Friday but it seems a hellish shift patteren for fatigue ..going from days to nights in your seven days on

But as you say if your happy with it !!

Going from a day shift that finishes say 13.00 on a Saturday to a nightshift that starts at 23.00 on a Sunday gives you 34 hours off inbetween. I like that. Anyway I think I've explained the shifts to you as far as I can, if you don't like it its not for you. It's the way it is. Part of the job.

Do you work for Scotrail or are you attempting to get a job with them?

As has been explained it's a 4 days week, a 4 day week doesn't guarantee you work 4 then get a day off.

I do not work a 7 day week every to 3/4 weeks I work a 4 day week as I do not work Sundays.
The company are not really hee hawing as it costs them a fortune under current system and drivers who do work their Sundays are well rewarded for it (was not always the case)
As Scotraildriver has said if you are clearly worried about the shift pattern which you clearly are then why keep insisting on going on about it if it is a major concern?
A more pertinent and reasonable question to ask is if things will change etc but we have already advised you on this before too.
It will take a long time before there is a significant change to the current structure to bring Sunday inside.
Other TOCs have systems such as a week of Rest days every 5th week which is a pain in the hole especially if you do booked Sundays

It has been done to death and no more can come from discussing it further at this stage.

If your on a 4 day week and have forced Sundays. You can work 9 days in a week !!! but it gets worse because I heard that a certain QC said we can work 13 days in a week. :(

My week starts on a Thursday evening at 1738 but I'm a Londoner so our TOC's work more efficiently than Scottish ones. Our week starts at the median time of the evening peak so that a midway shift change can be rostered.

THANK YOU COMUTOR....

This is what I was trying to say in other threads that I posted on this post as they seem to think they are in a four day week every week!!...(before they complained and I got them deleted )

My point was that's not the case as on Scotrail you have 17 enforced Sunday overtime shifts per year..

(Which is great if you want the extra money..not so great if you can't get cover for the Sunday shift and you want it off )

Which means you work at least 7 days on the bounce) 17 times per year to cover these Sunday's ..

Working the 7 days on the bounce and going from earlies to late shift in the middle of seven shifts must be bad for fatigue...

But they still want you to believe they are on a four day working week..which clearly isn't the case!!

Am surprised the union allows it tbh.

Going from earlies to lates is p*ss easy. It's going from lates to earlies with one day off inbetween that is lethal.

That is exactly what ASLEF agreed! Roughy every 5 weeks, a booked Sunday extends the working week to 7 days (wed to sat, sun to tue, wed and thurs rest day), is indeed 7 days. The 4 day week sometimes is just a play on words, every driver on most tocs including mine (Scotrail), know this to be fact, so yes there is a 4 day working week, but with the Sunday it can be 7, and sometimes for drivers that swop it can be 9!!

But like everything else the local ASLEF reps can convince just about everybody that their way is always the only way!!;)

This has all been brought up to him at least 7 times from a quick scan but he still cannot process simple information that has been passed on to him where he keeps creating threads asking the same thing over and over again which I am surprised admin keep letting happen.
He then begins to troll other posters when they give him same answers or tell him he keeps repeating the said subject..

It is getting a bit sad and desperate and altogether pointless now

Your spot on gadgetman total agree with you there.

On the Scotrail shift patteren the Sunday that they class as a day off is the finishing late shift on the sat evening then early shift on the Monday morning..

That's a Jammie day in the house to let your body adjust ..

So I wouldn't even class it as a proper rest day tbh..

Apart from your Wednesday Thursday off in the following week your pretty much chasing your 5 days off all the time ...

Banging on it's a four day week went it clearly isn't ..

Better than mon-Friday ...

Not as good as they would like you to believe it is !!

As what link1driver has stated it's not a 4 day working week...

Skinnydave you seem to get your back up when I've clearly stated facts which by the way went into far more detail but they have been removed from the thread..after they have been reported !!!!

Strange that ...

Am not saying it's a bad job am just clearly stating for people on the outside waiting for their new 36 hour (average ) week job this simply is not the case with the current shift patteren ...

But am sure that will upset your wee apple cart telling everyone the jobs a 4 day a week number down the pub...

And just for the record if you think the jobs not for me because of the shifts your wrong..being in the military for 11 years am sure I would cope.

It's a killer when you have 8 nights in a row too.

Yeah that's a sore one ...can't be easy trying to get used to that especially with different start/finish times...it's a great job and a fantastic career but your certainly working for your money .
