Just been on the national rail website, and more railcards have been added. Was wondering when they were introduced?

I'm assuming you mean the ones in the list on the journey planner.
The railcards have 'always' existed - it's just NR never put them as a choice into the journey planner for some reason until recently in line with other online journey planners.
There were a few name changes this year too:
Young Persons Railcard became the 16-25 Railcard
Family Railcard became the Family & Friends Railcard

yeh I knew about the YP becoming 16-25. like there's one for MOD soldiers now. at least the railways are knowing how to treat soldiers properly, unlike the government

Believe that is the HM Forces Railcard and AFAIK it's been about a while.

Must renew my Disabled R/C. It's just run out! I have to suggest that the three-year option is worth the money.
Quick question on the topic- what is tha last date one can buy a 16-25 ONE YEAR railcard?
A: Day before your 25th Birthday
B: Day before your 26th Birthday?
For the THREE year, the site explicitly mentions the day before your 24th Birthday, which makes me guess it must be Option B, but I know not to expect logic or sense from anything to do with fares and ticketing on our rail system.

I've often wondered this, and will be glad to know the answer so I can exploit the system to the max... :grin:
Also worth remembering that you can have this card if you are a Mature student, as below:
"1. Can I obtain a 16-25 Railcard as a Mature Student aged over 26?
If you are 26 or over, you will need proof that you are a full-time student at a recognised educational establishment. You must attend for over 15 hours a week and for at least 20 weeks a year. You can either show an ISIC card (International Student Identity Card)or have the 'Mature Students Only' section of the application form completed and certified. Because we need to see this proof, you must apply at a staffed station ticket office or rail appointed Travel Agent. NUS cards will not be accepted as proof of age/educational status (Open University, distance learning and part-time courses do not qualify).

So, even if you turn 26 during the validity of your Railcard you can still make huge savings."

Good stuff. Mine runs out January, but given the savings I make, the extra ~£10 (pro rata) it'll cost me to renew again the day before my birthday will be absorbed in, ooh, a couple of weekends (and that's with me not being any sort of basher or spotter- I just use trains to get places. A lot). Gets me even further before my discount gets shrunk to the South East.

it isn't a stupid comment. are the government giving money out for injured troops coming back from iraq and afagistan? no they're not. http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ this charity are providing the money for physiotherapy and other treatmants along with their injuries.
