TfL updating small number of stations with new names and colours from 20 November, with the majority happening from 25 November.

Really disappointing that they aren't doing a proper full roll-out, updating the Tube/Lizzy line PIS and onboard maps. It somewhat devalues the benefits of this scheme, though I am still glad to see it. I recognise that getting voice actors for each tube line to say the new names is probably very expensive or not possible, but the maps would've been nice at least. I wonder if the new DLR and Piccadilly line trains will have the updated names built in? And I wonder if NR operators will have the names added to the PIS onboard

TfL must be in some severe financial dire straits to not update the rest of the network, this must be unheard of.

They seem to be taking 2 months
Although why the 378s updates are in November, but 710 updates are not until January seems to suggest lack of planning

The rollout is taking place as follows:

• Signage unveiled over nine days across the 113 stations that London Overground serves
• Updates to in-train maps and line diagrams across the London Overground fleet, and an upgrade to the audiovisual passenger information system on the Class 378 trains, which run on the Lioness, Mildmay and Windrush lines
• New Tube maps at all stations
• Online versions of maps live on the TfL website
• Updates to customer information screens and PA announcements at London Overground stations
• Digital channel updates, including the TfL website and TfL Go, will be updated in two phases which will be fully completed by mid-December
• The audiovisual passenger information system on the Class 710 trains will follow by January 2025

Not directly though Manor House and Harringay Green Lanes have a 10 minute walking interchange. Plus Caledonian Rd and Caledonian Rd & Barnsbury.

Quite, this is also something that popped into my mind.

One assumes the functionality already exists in the “original” electrostar PIS as a result of various trains being shared amongst operators/brands, making the line names work as a happy accident. I can’t prove this, but that’s my working theory.

That said, maybe the new PIS software on the Aventras just isn’t very good or is quite difficult to configure! SWR certainly seem to have been having fun with theirs.

Or maybe just supplied as specified, ordered and paid for. Just because it doesn’t now do something it wasn’t ever intended to do doesn’t necessarily make it ‘not very good’. Maybe whoever ordered it wasn’t very good at providing their requirements?

Funnily enough, I got a letter from TfL about the work in Surrey Quays (i live nearby so it'll mildly affect me) and they called it the East London Line! I guess Windrush Line is the service, ELL is the line.

Still the old branding on the line diagrams at Forest Hill, Whitechapel and Canada Water today.

I was on a unit on the Windrush/ELL which has all of the new Overground line branded diagrams on it, which is rather frustrating as someone could be sitting and all they see is the line diagrams for the Mildmay and Lioness lines. My return trip had the old diagrams on it.

The rebranding was necessary - the existing "explosion in a spaghetti factory", and confusion of announcements which simply say the Overground is "part suspended" without any detail of which line is involved was unsustainable - the North London and East London groups and the Goblin should have been given separate identities from the outset.

The time, money and manpower would have been the same whatever the names chosen.

As a former daily user, I don't really agree, especially with how large the new lines still are. "The Windrush line is part suspended" doesn't mean much to me either, is it the branch to Clapham then that doesn't matter to me. "The London overground is suspended between Sydenham, Crystal Palace and West Croydon " is much more useful. Not to mention the lines can be occasionally rejigged a bit during engineering work and a service can occasionally run over multiple of the newly demecrated lines.

Surely though you are comparing apples and oranges. A "the Windrush line is part suspended" announcement will be used where previously a "London Overground is part suspended" announcement was used. Where more detail was given about the Overground it doubtless will too about the individual lines.
