New NightJets - on-board catering

Hello,

Simple question, but does anyone know if the new NightJet stock as the catering sorted yet? I believe I read somewhere that (at least at the beginning) only cold food was being served. Is the full range of hot/cold/drinks now available? Travelling Vienna - Hamburg early next month so looking forward to sampling the new stock.

"Theoretically" is the key word here.

My experience in the last 3 months, when trying to purchase something:
- "Please go to car no. XXX !"
- "I do not know how to use the payment terminal."
- "All warm meals have been already reserved - nothing left."
- "Onboard catering - good question. I need to search what we have. Oh, there are some sandwiches." - One hour later I saw that a warm meal was served to another passenger in my sleeping car.

Short - better buy sth. to eat beforehand at the station.

Fairly standard breakfast items for Europe really, e.g. bread roll, croissant, slice of ham, slice of cheese, small pot of Nutella etc.

Don't forget to sample the lounge! Only snacks and soft drinks (?beer but no wine) but a pleasant enough place to wait.

Seems like. However, since NJ don't have a restaurant car or dedicated kitchen, they are very limited in what they can offer. I agree though that something like "drinks and snacks" might be more plausible than "culinary delights".

Sadly this time we're in a couchette, so the lounge won't be an option!

So in the end we had a very pleasant trip. We didn't order anything hot, but drinks and cold snacks were provided by the attendant (cash only - the machine was broken), who proactively asked us if we wanted to order anything. The train left Vienna within five minutes of schedule and arrived in Hamburg on time. It was actually nine minutes early arriving into Harburg so we were held there until the scheduled departure time.

Having only used sleeper compartments before, I found the new-generation couchette a little smaller and a little less comfortable but overall perfectly adequate, and it really suited our needs as a family with two young kids.
