Thanks djp. I fear I shall have to bypass my non-timetabled stuff till January from whence I shall note my dep/arr times. No hardship as I haven't got a full years record for 2016 anyhow. I have looked at yours, rather more than mine I must say.

Hi jay, you could just input an approximate time for your LU journeys rather than losing some mileage. I think if you put in the same dep and arr time for a journey it will work too. You just want to choose a time that fits in with your other journeys for that day.

Ooh I don't know about that - I'm far too anal to approximate anything!
If I had full National Rail mileage then perhaps, but as I haven't then I'll let it go and keep better records come 2017. Cheers though.

Purely out of interest what is the thinking behind not counting DVT's for haulage when whether they were at the back or the front they weren't hauling you? You were being pushed by something if the DVT was at the front. With units why do you have to have travelled on every carriage? If you had 50031, 50015 and 50008 at the front of your train you don't have to have been in the cab of each to claim you were hauled by them. Like I say I just want to understan peoples thinking on this.

I class DVT's as coaching stock so I don't get any miles off them as they don't provide any traction. I red line them if I'm lucky enough to be in one when its moving.

I just don't feel the need to log the DVTs. If I remember then I'll underline it if I haven't done so before, but I don't add it to my moves book.

As for LU, I never used to log my journey times on it, that changed when I got onto RailMiles. I would not sacrifice mileage for not logging arrival or departure times!

It should still be possible, used to be pre-RM4 days. Used to be a case of both boxes reading 00:00 and that would be fine. I've not tried that on RM4 but worth a go?

Someone mentioned headcodes recently, I'm not all that bothered about them myself, so I don't make an effort to note them. Imagine how long it would take to post my observations if I did fiddle around looking for headcodes!

Firstly, hi Lee, welcome to the forum!

Secondly, logging stations comes down to your personal discretion. How you do it is up to you! I'm personally quite lenient with stations; I only have to visit one platform, for example, and all I have to do is touch down on the platform. Once I do, I've visited. So I've logged several stops on lines like the Far North Line by very briefly getting off when another train is passing and then getting back on again.

From a personal point of view I include a station that I have boarded or alighted from a different service ie not merely stepping off. I might re-board the same unit at a terminus platform once stepping onto terra firma, technically a different service after all. But even then if the service pattern was frequent enough I'd catch the next one to be certain. Traction wise I take all units in a consist unless one clearly isn't taking power ie a failure etc. As for individual vehicles, not for me, too much hard work!

I don't count trains unless they are a 165/6 or a HST. For stations, for me I just count it if the train stops there.

Basically just do what you feel is right, there are no specific rules.

Further to this, how do you folks count your LU shacks? Personally I have to visit each line that serves a station e.g. both Victoria and Northern at Euston. Unless they share the track such as Circle/District/Hammersmith in places. Then of course you have Mile End where District/Central share adjacent platforms? Or Barons Court with District/Piccadilly. Interested to hear your thoughts.

I'm not quite that fussy, but as I've done all the lines, and even in both directions on almost all of it, I've also done all the shared LU shacks anyway off each line. I'm not convinced I've done Earls Court off the Piccadilly line, but I can soon ensure that when I am next down there scoring Piccadilly line sets!

Using your example of Mile End, I have to do both lines to clear the station entirely. I can for example turn up on a Central Line train and leave on a District train.

Yeah just get out there and enjoy yourself. No one is going to judge you on what you do or don't record. Obviously on a forum such as this you may find more people are interested if you say what unit you went on or loco you were hauled by. I tend to find we are a broad church for want of a better phrase.

Very much so!

On the meets there is usually a range of people from those who aren't bothered about noting anything at all through those who may log times (be it booked, actual or both) and classes to those like myself who note unit/loco numbers alongside booked departure times and journey undertaken through to those who may note more
