Hi all

My friend needs to travel from New Malden station to Farringdon or Angel underground stations (he doesn't know which yet) this evening, leaving around 1700 and arriving at roughly 1845, or a little later. He then needs to travel back from either of these stations to Horley station, not via New Malden, leaving some time between 2100 and 2300.

He does not have Oyster and has no discounts available, as far as I know. He needs flexibility to travel via London Bridge or London Victoria on the return leg.

Any suggestions for a reasonably flexible method of doing this which won't cost the earth?

Thanks folks :)

Horsham - London is valid both via Horley (map LB) and via New Malden (map combination SC+PD), so a £20.10 Off-Peak One Day Travelcard Horsham - London Zones 1-6 route Not Gatwick Exp should be suitable.

But a cheaper option is a £7.30 Off-Peak One Day Travelcard New Malden - London Zones 1-4, plus a £6.30 Anytime Day Single (SDS) Boundary Zone 4 - Horley. Total £13.60.

Thanks John. Those both sound like good options so I'll wait for other suggestions and probably tell my friend about them anyway.

How about a Std day single from New Malden to Horley, route 'Not Via London' priced at £9.80 and a Zone 1-2 travelcard priced at £6.60? Total of £16.40.

I don't think this would be valid via London Bridge on the return journey, but would be fine via Victoria/Clapham Junction.

Agreed, I don't think this can be beaten without sacrificing flexibility, which by 2300 could be crucial.

Will ticket machines know what a Boundary Zone ticket is? I'm afraid I don't know what facilities my friend will be using. He may use a ticket office, in which case I expect them to know what it is!

A TVM at New Malden can issue the travelcard, but not the Boundary Zone 4-Horley ticket. Tickets from Boundary Zone 4 can only be issued by booking offices.
