new line - how does a driver learn it?

If there is a new line, like HS2 or a line that is not regually used like Samundham to Sizewell. How does a driver learn the new track if no one has ever driven it before?

Normally Driver Managers/Instructors will learn the route then pass on the knowledge to other drivers on many driver training trips. After this other drivers may join these on service trains & so it goes on. One route is basically like any other once you know the line speed, stopping/braking points & any other issues such as tunnels, level crossings, gradients etc.

Sometimes a computer simulation will be made as part of the training if its completely new. Was that done for the Bermondsey fly under/over?

If its a major change to signalling/routing like currently taking place at Shenfield or the new station constructed at Cambridge North then drivers are issued with publications & a link to watch each route setting 'on line' which can be followed through the graphics. They are then paid overtime to do this in their own time when convenient. In these particular cases its 3 hours & 2 hours respectively.

Going back 20 years the Northern Line bank branch was closed between Moorgate and Kennington for a period, when re-opened all newly qualified drivers were hiked through it and shown what they needed to know.

Yes mate, proper ones. It's how we learn new bits now.
