New lights

Does anyone know why there are new lights over the buffers at the dead end track at St Albans City? There are two lights one over the other, white, yellow or orange, mounted on the buffers.

Nothing very unusual about this - for example the carriage sidings outside London Victoria have marker lights on the buffer stops. AIUI they can be white or red, depending on whether a red light might be mistaken for a proper signal when seen from a distance at night.

Afaik all buffers that are lit, is because you have entred that track section on a main aspect I.e all major termini so the red light is almost a red signal. I hop I make sence.

Not sure if your question is just regarding why there are lights or why there are the new lights. As has been said the lights are there for the driver to see at night.

As for the new lights, it could be that the old ones needed replaced or there is a new standard of lighting used for buffer stops.

The colour also govourns what is displayed on the train, white you leave markers up, red you leave reds on the rear of course
