Have been looking at designing a layout to suggest to a new club that may be starting up. The attatchment shows the basic plan.

The Concept
The terminating station is based around Battersby Station. The platforms and track layout are designed to replicate the operation on DMU's, Loco. Hauled Charters & Engineer's Trains. Trains have the chance to run-round and then return to the off-scene fiddle yard. Power for this track will come from the scenic side of the board joint before the T&RS works access spur.
The main scenic feature of the layout is the rolling stock works. This complex has 2x 3-road sheds. One shed will be fitted out to cope with wagons and the other with coaches. Another single road shed will be used for either a paint facility or store for stock awaiting repair.
Trains for the rolling stock works will run onto the layout so the nose of the loco. is showing on the scenic section. A signal will then hold the train until the points/catch points into the complex are set. The gates at the entrance to the reception sidings could well be motorised to add realism to operation. Trains would then run into the loop at the centre of the complex where the locomotive can be uncoupled and use any siding as a headshunt to run down onto the loco spur at the opposite end of the layout. The duty shunter can then run round the stock and push it into the correct sidings before returning to the fuel point next to the coaching stock shed. The locomotive can then pull up to the shunt signal guarding exit to the complex. The catch points and gates can then open to all ow the locomotive up to the signal guarding exit to the mainline. The catch point and gates can then be set against the locomotive which can then proceed to the fiddle yard using the running line controller.
Varied shunting operations can then be performed in the works and barrier coaches and stock can be formed into consists for dispatch performing the above proceedure in reverse. There is the possibility that more varied coaching stock could be included with preserved workings as can be seen on the Esk Valley line courtesy of the NYMR.
Improvements would be greatly appreciated and suggestions for the scenery to fill the large section adjacent to the rear backscene.
