As Honiton is twice the size of Axminster, I don't think the residents of the former would take kindly to being relegated to a local service. Any local service would be hourly at best and run Honiton-Exeter. Remember that not all of the intermediate stations between Honiton and Exeter are served by the current hourly service, so to provide a half hourly one would be overkill.

Yes of course. I mis-wrote. We have to remember that the present stations act as change points for pax from nearby towns such as Sidmouth and Ottery or Seaton.

Analysis of present usage would give a clue. I did write 'eventually lead' as I think a local hourly local service and the present hourly 'fast' one need a double line. As SWT writes, the concept seems to have disappeared at present (??).

Managed to answer my own question on Ediginswell and Marsh Barton, via theHorrid Express

£600,000 for new rail halts at Edginswell, Torquay and Marsh Barton in Exeter, adding to the funding already received via the Local Transport Board as part of the Devon Metro scheme which will strengthen Torbay's transport links with Exeter, Exmouth and the national network. The new rail stations will cost £5.4million.

Slowly but surely, funding is being accumulated. Not sure I'd want to be on the platform at Marsh Barton though, that new waste to energy plant absolutely honks!
