Metro have installed platform screens at my local station. On one platform the screen is off completely and on the other displays a welcome message then reboots itself every 2/3 minutes. The time is also out by 12 hours.

Anyone know why? Or when they might work correctly?

When there is no data for the screens to show, they will reboot themselves every few minutes as a way of refreshing to see if data is now available. Give them a week or so, as sometimes if the screens are part of a bigger project they might be waiting for other stations to be fitted.

The one at James Cook (the first screen, not the current ones) did that as part of the commissioning process

The one at Baildon occasionally goes into a reboot loop. I've generally thought that this was either a software glitch, or possibly a loss of network connection. It's usually sorted out fairly quickly though so isn't a problem really.

Redcar Central is the same, there's a bigger outside the booking office and the smaller screen on platform 1, they both work. The other smaller screen laced on platform 2 (very new) just says Welcome to Redcar Central. Like other stations its probably not live yet.

FWIW I've noticed that now when the displays at Glasgow Queen Street fail they all say Welcome to Glasgow Queen Street instead of the old please refer to timetable but at Glasgow Central its just the three dots when they fail

I have wondered...what's the meaning of the three dots? Does it signify that the central system is not sending anything to the display, perhaps?

The three dots don't only appear when a screen is faulty, they appear when there are no more trains to display too. Presume it means there is nothing to display.

This. There was a particular screen at Norwich which for a few weeks after installation (if I remember correctly it was one of the first to go in) spent its entire time rebooting and displaying operating system data. After a few weeks it began to behave itself properly.

The three dots don't only appear when a screen is faulty, they appear when there are no more trains to display too. Presume it means there is nothing to display.

The "Welcome to X" message can also appear when there are no further trains to display. Older systems seem to be happier to revert to "Customer Information System", which serves only to cruelly raise expectations of imminent meaningful knowledge when shown at 3am at, say, Sanderstead.
