The new Castleford Bus Station opens this Sunday!

http://www.wymetro.com/news/New_bus_station_for_Castleford/

...Nice that something has happened, shame they never got much further with the grand plan to create the Interchange that was originally intended!

One thing that is concerning is the opening times :

Castleford Bus Station will be open from 5am -11.15pm Monday to Saturday and 8am – 11.15pm on Sundays.

...Instantly I can think of services that arrive into Castleford after these times, the 11:15pm 189 from Leeds doesn't arrive until about 11:45pm as a prime example!

They'll drop off outside at the roadside stops.

Metro's new bus stations at Cleckheaton, Batley and Brighouse originally had night stands where the bus station was closed after around 8pm and all services went from a single stand that was outside the station building. They've stopped that now though.

This is the case just about everywhere now with late night services.

Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Mansfield, all are closed and locked after about 11.30pm.
Services terminate/depart from the street outside or the nearest available stop. A few have one bay which can be accessed without people entering the concourse.

The night stand in Brighouse didn't last long as after about nine months it was removed.

In Horsham, West Sussex. Some late night buses have been known to bypass the bus station and let any passengers on alight at The Carfax instead before running back to the depot.

At the start of this century, when Metro began rebuilding its assorted bus stations, the night stand system was used at the smaller bus stations (Batley, Brighouse, Ossett etc.) but these began opening longer hours within a few months. I assume the same will apply at Heckmondwike when it opens, despite this being an entirely new facility rather than a replacement.

I've heard the drivers aren't too happy about the lack of a cafe  ('Space for a retail unit' so maybe in the future).

Does seem a bit odd, I'm sure Greggs would have happily taken a spot there. They seem to be the WHSmith of bus stations round here :D

The new Heckmondwike Bus Station is just a collection of bus shelters around a square bit of land. The original planned more extensive facility went by the wayside due to the economic downturn.
