new camera advice

Hi guys and girls,

im in the market for a new camera i have about 175-200 pound to spend, im looking for the best that there is for the money available, anyone know of any good bargains at the moment or any sugestions for a good camera, i curently have a kodak c344.

Depends on what you want? Do you want a good compact or an average SLR? I use a CANON SX 100 compact, its fine with good 8 Meg resolution when its fully wound up. Takes small movies as well but just dont have too much zoom when in movie mode because the image size is reduced. Dead easy to use and its not too big, plenty of features for a novice to get used to aswell.
About £100 -125 on evil-Bay, then you need a couple of SDHC cards and maybe a tripod, which is a smart investment IMHO!!

Hmm I use a Canon 350D SLR; I bought it for about £250 at the end of 2007 (from a private camera shop who sell the odd 2nd hand camera) - now, a lot of cameras have been about since so I reckon the model could be cheaper again now possibly. It uses Compact Flash cards and as an SLR it is a good camera as I'm happy with mine... could be worth a look? Also of note, from a 2nd hand point of view you may be able to get at least the kit lens with it - I got an 18-55mm with it so you could get some bargains there...

The current global financial turmoil means the SLR route is pretty much shut. For example a lens I bought last year for 300 sheets will now set you back 470 from the same outlet! Go for a decent compact with glass, like the Panasonic Lumix series that look SLR-like. Good zoom range is key. And don't get overly concerned with MP count, it isn't all that. Sensor comes down to the quality of each pixel not the quantity. I'll post more after a little hunt around for you

Me again, as I needed the new camera pretty sharpish, I had alook at mumrar's sugestion and had alook at the lumix range,I have now got the lumix fz28 in black, thanks for your help and advice.
They also had a sony slr A200 iirc for 260 pounds that did not seem to bad, but got the lumix instead.
