New automatic ticket gates at King’s Cross

What does OSI stand for ? I should know, but don't.

I'm beginning to think that there's a lot of London travellers who don't - I didn't until very recently.

OSI = Out of Station Interchange. At a number of Tube, DLR, London Overground and National Rail stations which lie in close proximity, or where interchange requires passengers to pass through ticket barriers, an Out of Station Interchange (OSI) is permitted. In such cases, the card holder touch out at one station and then touch in again before starting the next leg of the journey. The PAYG fares are then combined and charged as a single journey. E.g. At Balham (National Rail) and Balham (London Underground), a maximum permitted interchange time of 20 minutes is allowed.

Let's say they do the OSI at Finsbury Park. How will passengers know to touch out of the Tube and then touch into FCC ? At Finsbury Park, there are no exit barriers, so passengers may regard the transfer from tube to FCC as a continuation of the same fare and journey.

Same building at FPK, so no "Out of Station" interchange -- as you don't go Out of Station! Simple enough

But then again... that's a good point. Effectively only half the same building is getting gated off... I guess FCC will have a tiny poster up to warn people so they can pass the blame on when everybody gets a maximum fare after touching out and not back in again!
