Could Amazon do that? Do they not offer mainly small products ( books/DVD's etc) rather than big bulky items? How many copies of James Bond do you need to fill a shipping container?

Amazon do bulky stuff as well, white goods, Tv's, lawn mowers you name it, it's there. What you have to consider is how internet selling works. Traditionally a manufacturer would produce the goods and sell them to say Argos, Tesco and Homebase as three examples who would then sell them through their own network to the end user. Amazon allows a manufacturer of say lawn mowers to send their production to Amazon who then hold the stock and wait for Joe Public to place an order with one of the traders who may have "purchased" the stock from the same manufacturer. Amazon process the payment or allows the trader to do so, and one authorised then despatches the goods to the consumer complete with an invoice from the trader. The clever part is that possibly both the manufacturer and trader may not be resident in the EU, never mind the UK.
