I was going to post this well before Xmas, thought I had but totally forgot.,...

But from the week before Xmas it looked like Southern has made a couple of tweaks to their Advance trains.

Namely the removal of an Advance being offered on the 0732 out of Portsmouth & Southsea, which was always convenient for me to get into work for 0930! Coupled with an Advance back at 1600 Ish my "from £20" fare is now £40+

The Advance on the Up leg now available from the 0759....

Has anybody else noticed these small tweaks on services? I saw some posts about the increase of the Contactless area on Southern and wondered if its connected to that?

TOCs change advance ticket availability all the time. There’s nothing guaranteed about it. It’s not connected to the changes in the contactless area.

I noticed after the summer period finished, there was a lot more First Class Advances than Standard Class ones being presented onboard, unsure if related to actual availability mind.

Victoria if it's London, and Southern
You are right. I just saw Portsmouth and Southsea and assumed SWR. Southern services from Portsmouth are tediously slow trips along the coast then up the Arun valley to Gatwick and Victoria.

I think it’s probably London Waterloo
The 0732 is a Southern service to Victoria which gets to East Croydon 0928, Clapham Junction 0938 and Victoria 0945. So the OP won’t be travelling to Waterloo or Victoria, or anywhere further in than East Croydon. There’s not much use speculating, just need an answer from the OP!

Sorry for the delay (no pun).....yes it's Southern as I go to Croydon.
Back half of last year it became quite rare to grab a £10 advance each way.....so a lot of the time was paying £22.50 / £25.

I've found a new route which looks to be coming in around £28 splitting at Merstham (and being a walk up fare so no planning / moving Advance tickets on Southern's App when work changes)..it does mean the journey is 10-15 mins longer but it does mean that Journey home is not restricted to say 1623 or 1953 i.e. I can leave during peak (won't be in the pub so much after work?)
