I must admit I quite like the squiggles livery although it will just get annoying after a while

it's a stunning livery! Can't wait to see the first HST pull through Newport with that on it!

I am very pleased with how the HST looks :)

I really think it suits it, and even if people dont exactly like the colour scheme, they cant deny it is very, very eye-catching! 8-)

the slapper (gosh, what an excellent and mature user name!), are you sure you're not a chav in disguise? Only chavs have such narrow-minded, immature views. Sorry, no, I'm wrong. No, I meant to include that huge group of Chiltern and GNER fans too. *Goes looking for GNER and Chiltern fans, finds just a couple*

So if I dislike First, I am therefore Chav, Ha! and im narrow minded?

Its the same with all you tram bashers, if a companie runs HSTs, they are therefore great.

I see your logic. People who have an opinion which conflicts with yours are "chavs". I don't agree with *all* of Hitlers policies, do you? So was Hitler also a chav?

Damn teenage nazi scumbags...

Please refer to bottom line of my sig.

I doubt it Gareth - once a livery is gone, it's generally gone for good! You won't see Central putting any more stock into the 1990's Centro livery, or Northern painting any new trains original WYPTE red, or even SPT black and orange for ScotRail.

Im not a fan of this new "squiggle" livery, although I dont really like Barbie anyway.... so Im rather biased. I have to admit though, that although the 185's seem "plasticy" (NOT made of plastic before some idiot turns a perfectly accepted statement into a "literal" meaning) they do sound rather "beefy" for a unit, I was on a 158 near Newton-le-Willows, and one passed me in the station, and it's accelleration made the 158 vibrate. The 185 was 107 for those interested. I shall keep an open mind now I know they sound better than the 158's, though I'm still not too optomistic about them, and lots of trolley staff Ive spoken to (when your wedged up against them on the 07: xx Staly - M'cr and have no one else to talk to!!) have caught onto the idea about them being "smaller than the equivalent 158", and think it's rather stupid....

You never know though..... As when pacers are "heritage" units(!!) The pacer-bashers might push the TOC (if we are still privatised then) to paint them into an old livery- but from history, when this happens it is often the first livery worn, so for the GMc'r "death-wagons" it would be that light blue provincial livery, or GM orange (very much like SPT)

Also, talking about "SPT" and Glasgow, they painted an unrefurbished "blue-train" (class 303) into the original Greater Glasgow (GG) Blue Train livery... though sadly due to asbestos insulation still in situ , it had a premature withdrawal, and succumbed to the cutters torch before the rest of the class had been withdrawn.

We were discussing this on WNXX.... if you look at it on a glance it looks oddly like SWT (blue/red doors)...

Soooo many replies I could use there. I'll choose one...

You seem to hate First purely because of their liveries and traction used. Fair summary of your earlier post? I'd say so. It is people like YOU who ruin the hobby for everyone else.

I could say the same for people like you. If a TOC ran 47s and MK2s on some services, that would automatically make them great. Or if 47s aren't your thing, any type of loco. Fat chance. By that logic, ATW would be amazing, because they are bringing locos back to Rhymney services, albeit on a small scale. The reality is VERY different.

You are narrow minded because you don't seem to accept First's ability to run a decent service. First have been there to do all the innovative modern passenger stuff we take for granted now. As well as other things most TOCs can't understand the brilliance of or seem to see use for, no matter how much the passengers want or need them...

But yes, I do believe you are a chav, as I've said before. Only chavs are so narrow-minded they can't see behind their local TOC, or how GNER actually stink.

But then maybe it's just me. I mean, do chavs have the ability to do anything productive? No? Sorry, maybe you aren't a chav then. Although what you are I don't know. There's a name for people like you, what it is I can't remember.

EDIT: But you do show some chavness there, in that your spelling is not exactly hot. I'll shut up on that for now though.

Ahem.

FGWFan - I wouldn't nescesarilly make the connection to a chav, and it is perhaps unwise to brand people with such terms, but that's your own opinion.

"the slapper" - I don't think FGWFan meant that you disliked first :. you = chav. I think he was more commenting on how he thought your opinion was narrow minded.

You obviously have differing opinions, please respect this.

Thanks.

OK guys, please try to stay on topic lol

To answer a question asked earlier, there are several 185s on test around the north of England now. I've seen a few on runs to Hull in the past couple of weeks. However, I haven't seen one in the new livery yet. Which units are painted into this livery, and will they be on test runs to Hull at some point?

Accepted. I just don't like people who complain about First because of their liveries, then follow up with complaining about tram bashers. I'm not a tram basher, I leave that for the Stagecoach SuperTram/NET/Croydon Tramlink fans. I'm a IC125 basher and follower ;). Seriously, if Virgin were to put HSTs back on the Holyhead services, maybe restore Euston to Blackpool 'Challenger' services, that would not make them great, contrary to what 'the slapper' suggests. Granted, I do dislike MML in part (there are several other reasons, but that's not for discussion here) because they are insistent on using MMMs, not HSTs, on services which really should be run by HSTs. In the case of Scarborough, I can't recall whether HSTs ever operated up there, so maybe they've not got the safety case or whatever, whereas the MMMs got it, but still, I'd rather do that route on an FTPX 158 any day. Indeed, I did just that last year.

I'm going a bit off-topic now, but I'll add this to my signature later to avoid ever having to do it again. I AM a HST (as in the IC125 version) basher and follower. I am NOT one who needs to know every detail on them though. If a HST is found to be on a route I need to do, especially a normally unit-only route, and I can do it, I'll do everything in my power to go and do it. Anything wrong with that? No.

Back on topic, I like First's livery, but mostly the Fag Packet one, that was the most sensible one I guess. But this is the 21st century. People base opinions on what they see, not what they know, about something. If they make the 185s look appealing, the seats comfy enough and with enough legroom, I daresay the norms will be happy. Us lot are less impressed with the colours, as we would rather know what's under the carriage and stuff. So long as they are clean, tidy and with soft enough seats, then I daresay the most open-minded enthusiast won't mind. I'm open to trying all rolling stock at least once, so when I do try the 185s (I will be missing the first ever public passenger service run unfortunately), I shall go with an open mind on them. If after trying them I find I don't like them, as I have done with the SWT Desiros and SN Electrostars, then that is that. I don't have to ride them everyday, so it's less important for me then. What IS important is that I don't make a final opinion on the units before I trial them properly from a passenger's POV. From a number-cruncher's point of view, I can't wait to see them, it will finally start filling the huge gap in my fleet lists.

Finally, as for branding people as chavs, like has been said, it's my opinion. But I still don't call people chavs for no reason. We prefer to call them 'street kids' here, because that's all they do, hang around on the streets under the town clock trying to look big whilst shivering in the cold weather, trying to down White Lightning. The poor souls.

And that, as they say, is my say on this matter for the duration. I'll go add that thing about the HSTs into my signature (I'm sure you're all sick of seeing what stock I've seen all of by now!).

Regards, and here's to the next rant,
FGWFan.

After all, the Welsh had Hellfire 37 trips, up the beutifull scnic valleys, with brilliant phot spots, unlike the english, who haven't had any tractor haulage for a while

Too right. I'm not Welsh, never have been, never will be, so f**k off to the t**t who said I am. Granted, on RS people mistake me for being Welsh and living in Wales due to my choice of display name (Dinas Abertawe), which was chosen to represent my favourite 43's name, at least the Welsh part of it. I was in Wales at the time, in Swansea in particular, so it made sense. Now, if I wanted to, I could change to 47575, with an optional display name of 'City of Hereford'. But I don't, because 43019 is and always will be my favourite 43. I have another service 43 take over there, but 019 will always live on as the favourite overall. 43002 does a damn good job of things mind!

Thanks for putting the second capitalised 'F' in my username there HSTfan!!!.

As for you being offended, it was completely uncalled for, regardless of whether it was a joke or not. It's the second time in the last few days it has happened too, time it was stopped.

To all those who are joking about it, F**K OFF!

Rest assured, the individual who was responsible has been dealt with and won't be with us for the next few days. Anyway, as that's been sorted, back on topic please...
