New 10 Pence Designs

Hi all,

I don't think there is a thread on this so here it is...

Just thought I'd share with you the new designs for 10p's, as I have just found out myself.

There will be a design for every letter of the alphabet and each design is to do with something British, e.g James Bond or Fish 'n' Chips, meaning there will be a total of 26 new 10p designs circulating!

• A - Angel of the North

• B - Bond…James Bond

• C - Cricket

• D - Double Decker Bus

• E - English Breakfast

• F - Fish & Chips

• G - Greenwich Mean Time

• H - Houses of Parliament

• I - Ice-Cream Cone

• J - Jubilee

• K - King Arthur

• L - Loch Ness Monster

• M - Mackintosh

• N - National Health Service

• O - Oak Tree

• P - Post Box

• Q - Queuing

• R - Robin

• S - Stonehenge

• T - Teapot

• U - Union Flag

• V - Village

• W - World Wide Web

• X - X Marks the Spot

• Y - Yeoman

• Z - Zebra Crossing

I think it's a pretty neat thing to do.

I do have some constructive criticisms for it though. Firstly, the font choice for the NHS coin. They evidently aren't aiming to use the same font on all the coins, so I don't see why they went for that particular N when they could have used the slanting N from the NHS logo which would make it a bit more recognisable. Similarly, some of the designs (Greenwich mean time, world wide web) don't really match what they're supposed to be showing - it might have been slightly better to use a clock or an image of the Greenwich royal observatory for GMT, and a globe with lines drawn across it for WWW. Lastly, there must surely be something better than mackintosh for M!

The slanting N only appears in the logo for the NHS in England.

Both Wales and Scotland have different NHS logos.

You learn something new everyday! I hadn't anticipated the different NHSs having different logos, but I suppose it goes some way to explaining the lack of slanting N. That said, I still can't help but feel that the slanting N would still be more recognisable than the N they have gone with, even if it is a bit England centric.

It all seems a bit shallow, they've avoided anything truly good about this country and used boring stereotypes.
