I'm surprised they're safe enough to be moved by rail!

Thought it was Northern's attempt to boost capacity on the Leeds-Shefield locals!

For years there were some Mk1s stored in NH yards - they were owned by Ridings Railtours - wonder what ever happened to them?

The were actually Mk 2s - after being vandalised first and later set alight (it's a nice area around Neville Hill...), they remained there for several years before being tripped to Healey Mills where they languished for a while before being sent to Booths.

Cheers for that. Any idea what happened to Ridings Railtours?

Not run any trains since the Neville Hill based rake was taken out of service - I believe the last tour was in either December 1993 or early 1994. He talked about starting up again but nothing ever came of it, despite buying a considerable number of coaches including some repatriated from Ireland.

Wow. I didn't know that. Went on one or two of his trips - Edinburgh if I recall. Think the bloke was also campaigning for rail returning to Ripon.

Yes, he's been heavily involved in the Ripon Railway Reinstatement Association for many years. Edinburgh was one of the regular destinations for his charters, as was a Christmas trip to London.

Getting back on topic, I gather the Mk 2 air con that was moved today will shortly be heading off to the scrapyard.

The mkII was in a very poor state. A few years back they had to temp repair it with sticky back plastic as the side was rusted that much it was in danger of collapsing. The mkI was meant to be moving to the GCR via the KWVR where it could be put on a road vehicle, I'm guessing it's being done at Midland Road now instead.
